| Plays by American Women for "American Women" — a series of new plays by female playwrights about America.
WHTC's New Play Development Series is currently seeking submissions from female playwrights writing about the American experience. Women need not be at the center of these works, but they must be written by female playwrights and deal directly with concepts that are considered uniquely American in their themes, values or ideas. Plays will be considered for a possible reading and could also be considered for further development. The White Horse Theater Company will accept one entry per playwright and does not accept musicals. While the company still maintains its open submission policy, please note that other types of submissions will not be considered for development at this time. |

Dr. Mary Lorenz, a cognitive psychologist and expert interrogator in the U.S. Army Reserves, is called back for a second tour of duty post-9/11. On a break, after a two month stay at a V.A. Hospital, Mary's relationship with her Jewish boyfriend unravels in a Vegas hotel room. Rescued by her grandmother "Oma," the two journey home together. On the way, Mary confronts the physical and emotional trauma endured as the orphaned granddaughter of a German Nazi while Oma finally comes clean about their family's past and what happened in the WATER CLOSET.

Suite for Summer by Robyn Burland
Directed by Leigh Hile

Graphic Design by Jen Wiener
What happens when soccer moms fantasize about the young lifeguard at the pool, a husband wants to sleep with his best friend's wife, and a rich father-in-law calls the shots? Suite for Summer is a twisted tale of suburbia gone wrong, where boredom prevails, desire escalates, and honor no longer has a place.

Mourning Sun by Jess Foster
Directed by Cyndy A. Marion

Love in the land of the chili pepper. Mourning Sun is an ill-fated love story between a Native American woman and a female tourist visiting Albuquerque from the Northeast. As they travel the landscape getting to know one another, assumptions melt, identities clash, and the two are challenged to cross new boundaries they might not be ready for. Mourning Sun was originally developed at the Fusion Theater in Albuquerque, NM.
