Originally from Maine, Jess Foster graduated from Wheaton College with a B.A. in English, and a playwriting concentration. The following year she worked at Trinity Repertory Theatre in Providence, RI as a literary associate. She moved to Boston in 2006, where she was involved in the literary departments of the Huntington Theatre and Boston Playwright’s Theatre. She is currently attending Iowa University to work towards her MFA in Playwriting.
Most recently, One Man’s Trash was produced at University of Iowa as part of their gallery series. Her plays Hard and Fast: a love story and Dressed in Money and Ink both received readings in the Iowa New Play Festival. Last spring she worked with Fusion Theater in Albuquerque to develop her script, Mourning Sun. She has also penned Freezer Dreams, SANE, collaborative pieces with Philadelphia’s Cardboard Box Collaborative and 10 minute plays with productions at theaters such as the Chameleon Theatre Circle and Madcap Players. She began to explore film in 2008 when she wrote, co-directed, and co-produced her first 10-minute film Have your Cake with Blizzard in July Productions and is looking forward to the filming of her next project Graffiti.
